Norway- Getting our Bearings

We spent the last week of October in Norway. We stayed on the north-western shore of Randsfjorden, the third largest inland lake in Norway and a couple hours north of Oslo. The lake never gets more than a mile or so wide, but is over 80 miles long. The landscape everywhere was just beautiful. There also were no flat stretches of road longer than a few hundred yards. We were always climbing up and down mini-mountains. Below are some samples of the views from just outside our cottage and one of the countless streams that trickled along the rugged, rocky landscape. Water is not a resource they lack in Norway.

We quickly had to acclimate to the prices. The meager stash of food the girls posed with cost $60. No wonder the store next door to our place was called Joker. We did take advantage of it's convenient location though, as the next closest store was 15 miles or over 30 minutes north on the winding road tracing the lake shore.

Our cottage- the red one, and the lovely owner's house- white. It was a very nice place. (interior pictures coming in later post). The homes everywhere were immaculate in repair and none of the yards had junk cluttering them. The architecture and well kept homesteads reminded us a lot of Bavaria. Bright red, yellow and white were the colors of choice for most homes and barns.
The girls enjoyed the playhouse when the weather was nice.

  1. 60 bucks? Are you kidding me? That's out of control. Good thing Norway looks like a fabulous place to be to help make up for that prices! Haha!
